Joshua Perry, the boyfriend of a woman found dead in Iowa City under suspicious circumstances on Jan. 6, pleaded not guilty to criminal charges on Monday.
Perry is facing one count of domestic abuse assault, a serious misdemeanor, and one count of child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Victoria Skarda, who was found dead at a home in the 300 block of Camden Road, was not named in the criminal complaints, but a 2023 search warrant states that police previously responded to multiple domestic disputes between Perry and Skarda at his Camden Road home in 2021 and 2022.

The criminal complaints from Perry’s arrest on Jan. 7 allege Perry assaulted a victim he was in a domestic relationship with at his home the afternoon of Jan. 6.
Witnesses reported hearing a fight inside the apartment, and the victim sent a message to a family member saying she had been assaulted, according to the complaint. The complaint notes the victim had injuries consistent with an assault.
The criminal complaint also states that a minor child was present during the assault. Perry has not been charged in connection with Skarda’s death, and her cause of death is under investigation. Perry remains in Johnson County jail.
