An Iowa City man has been accused of stealing $2,200 worth of property.
Jerome Brooks Jr., 18, was charged between Sept. 9-13 with second-degree theft and third-degree burglary.
According to an Iowa City police complaint, the victim’s house was burglarized during the week of Sept. 9. Items such as saving bonds, jewelry, and electronics were allegedly taken from the victim’s residence.
A witness turned in some of the stolen property to officials. Officials interviewed the witness and discovered the name of one of the suspects.
Officials set up a controlled phone call between the witness and the suspect. During this call, the suspect named Brooks as one of the two people who entered the home.
The witnessed also asked questions about “purchasing” some of the stolen items, which allowed officials to know the suspects were still in possession of the stolen items.
Second-degree theft and third-degree burglary are Class-D felonies.
