An Iowa man and woman allegedly broke into a friend’s vehicle using a steel rod.

Robert Butler, 26, and Misty Davis, 28, were charged on Aug. 31 with second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree burglary.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Butler and Davis left their friend at a bar in downtown Iowa City after an argument. Butler and Davis then went to their friend’s parked vehicle.

Using a steel rod, Butler and Davis broke into the vehicle. The estimated damage for the vehicle is $6,000. Butler allegedly told officials he wanted to get into the vehicle to get his belongings and return to Cedar Rapids.

Davis claimed to be having an “anxiety attack” and broke into the vehicle to get her medications out, the complaint said. Butler and Davis allegedly said they did not realize there was that much damage done to the vehicle.

Second-degree criminal mischief is a Class-D felony. Third-degree burglary is an aggravated misdemeanor.
