For the next two days, the Iowa City School District will have early dismissals.
All 25 schools in the district will dismiss one hour early today and two hours early on Friday. This comes after three-consecutive days of early dismissals because of the heat.
Several buildings across the district lack complete air conditioning options.
The National Weather Service forecast for Thursday predicts a high temperature around 93 degrees and 96 degrees on Friday. Heat index values are anticipated to be as high as 100 on Thursday and 103 on Friday.
On Wednesday, The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Johnson County that will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.
