The University of Iowa Children’s Hospitals has once again been recognized among the top faciliteies in the country.

U.S. News & World Report ranked seven of the Children’s Hospital’s specialties in its 2013-14 “Best Children’s Hospitals” rankings in a Tuesday news release.

The list ranked the hospital in cancer (30), cardiology and heart surgery (34), diabetes and endocrinology (43), nephrology (25), neurology and neurosurgery (30), orthopedics (27), and pulmonology (47).

The rankings released by the multi-platform news organization recognize the top 50 U.S. hospitals in 10 specialty areas, the release said. They include cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology.  Across the country, 87 hospitals made the 2013-14 list with at least one specialty area.

“This is the fifth-consecutive year we have been ranked as one of the top children’s hospitals in the United States, which is a testament to the determination and dedication of our hospital staff and their expertise in caring for pediatric patients and families,” Scott Turner, the executive director of Children’s Hospital, said in the release. “We are honored to be the only hospital in Iowa nationally ranked for children’s health care, and this recognition reflects our continuing commitment to all of Iowa’s children.”

According to the release, the “Best Children’s Hospital” rankings are determined based on hospital reputation, patient outcomes, and structural resources for pediatric care that are in place in each hospital.
