A Cedar Rapids man has been accused of being intoxicated and knocking down a podium near a young child.

According to a University of Iowa police complaint, John Peyton, 30, 3121 Huxley Lane S.W., was charged with interference with official acts causing bodily injury.

Peyton was arrested after he ran himself and police officers into a podium, causing injury to the officers and knocking the podium over near a young child while officers were trying to arrest him for public intoxication, the complaint said.  

According to police, Peyton had a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech, and unsteady gait and admitted to drinking. He had a registered blood alcohol content of .079.
