Iowa City City Councilors will likely vote on the first consideration of an ordinance changing the definition of "household" in several city zones within the University Impact Area.
The ordinance would limit the number of unrelated persons living in one unit to a maximum of three. According to the proposal, this maximum is consistent throughout all other city zones.
Petitions representing 142 properties filed rezoning protests, but the percentage required to impose a super-majority vote was not reached. At least 20 percent of people affected by the zoning proposal were required to submit petitions.
If the council decides not to move forward with the first consideration at Tuesday’s meeting, councilors and the Planning and Zoning Commission are required to conduct a joint meeting.
