The state Board of Regents on Wednesday approved a proposal to increase parking-ramp fees at the three regent universities.
Some of the proposed increases would call for a $200 fine instead of a $100 fine for parking in a reserved handicap spot without proper credentials in the IMU parking ramp. This is the first time violation rates will change since 2002.
The new fees put in place would increase the University of Iowa’s revenue by around $700,000 for fiscal 2013.
The additional revenue would be used to increase maintenance, construct new or replacement parking capacity, replace, or modify facilities affected by the construction of the new UI Children’s Hospital, increase transportation to parking lots by Cambus, along with other appropriations.
