The intersection of U.S. Highway 6 and Sycamore Street will see some major changes following the Iowa City City Council’s approval of the intersection improvement project.
City officials will now move forward with the project, which includes pavement widening, median reconstruction, asphalt overlay, installing an 8-foot wide sidewalk, and installing a new traffic-signal system.
The cost is an estimated $1.8 million.
The project will be funded with a $200,000 USTEP Grant, Iowa Department of Transportation funds, water revenue, and general-obligation bond proceeds.
City councilors approved the plans on a 7-0 vote.
