Iowa City city officials would like to install two new water mains under the Iowa River following damage from the 2008 flood.
The flood exposed several existing water mains, and city officials said they hope to replace those water mains located near the intersection of Madison and Davenport Street and south of the Highway 6 bridge.
FEMA, which will fund most of the project, suggested the water mains be replaced for long-term use.
The estimated construction cost for the project is roughly $290,000. Iowa City city councilors will hold a public hearing Feb. 21. Construction is expected to take place from April through December.
