An Iowa City man was charged with the possession of a large amount of marijuana.
According to Iowa City police, Daniel Mon, 20, 221 Iowa Ave., was charged on Feb. 9 with the possession of a controlled substance and a drug tax stamp violation.
Police officers conducted a search at Mon’s residence, the report said. Under Miranada, Mon allegedly admitted to the possession of 3.5 ounces of marijuana as well as $728 in small bills, packing materials, a digital scale, and other marijuana related paraphernalia officers allegedly found in his bedroom.
Possession of a controlled substance is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in jail and a maximum fine of $6,250.
Possession or distribution of a taxable substance without a tax stamp is a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years in jail and a maximum fine of $7,500.
