An Iowa City man faces drug charges for the second time in less than a week after police responded to his apartment after receiving a report of an assault.
According to a series of complaints by Iowa City police, Thomas Rice, 19, was charged with possession of cocaine Dec. 8 after a search warrant was executed on his residence, 112 1/2 E. College St.
The complaints said officers responded to the residence early Monday morning for a report of an assault. Upon their arrival, the officers smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the apartment, according to the complaint. Rice allegedly exhibited signs of marijuana ingestion while speaking with police, and the complaint said it was apparent he was using drugs.
The complaint also said that during a consent search, officers located quantities of marijuana on the apartment’s coffee table, along with trace amounts of cocaine.
Rice is charged with possession of a controlled substance and keeping a drug house.
