Gov. Terry Branstad has directed that all flags in Iowa be flown at half-staff today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in remembrance of Pearl Harbor.
On Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese forces surprised the U.S. in a military strike on Pear Harbor in Hawaii.
A press release from the Office of the Governor said flags at the State Capitol will be at half-staff and encouraged all public buildings and properties to participate as well as a sign of respect for the day.
