Iowa City city councilors voted to hold off on the vote regarding implementing photo enforcement for red-light violations last week. The first consideration vote is slated to be held the beginning of January. The vote would alter a standing ordinance to allow photo enforcement at intersections.
City Councilor Connie Champion said the first vote would be deferred so the four new city councilors would be able to vote on the following required consideration votes. They would have otherwise been unable to vote.
If passed, the city would negotiate contracts with a photo-enforcement vendor following a "Request for Proposal" process.
