A Cedar Falls man was charged after he allegedly used his ex-girlfriend’s banking information to pay off his credit card.
Aaron Stockstell, 22, was charged Nov. 3 with identity theft and third-degree theft.
According to an Iowa City police complaint, he used the account information to make two online payments to his Capital One credit card, the first of which occurred July 31, the second on Aug. 1. The complaint said the two payments totaled $845, and there was no other fraudulent activity on the victim’s account.
The complaint also said the IP address used to make the Aug. 1 payment was registered to Stockstell’s roommate in Cedar Falls, where Stockstell attended the University of Northern Iowa. Stockstell and the roommate share the same address and are both named on the lease of the apartment, according to the complaint.
