Iowa City police charged a Riverside, Iowa, man with second-degree theft after he allegedly stole more than $3,800 from his workplace.

Matthew Lynn Day, 36, worked at Pharmacy Matters from February 2009 until April 2011.

Reports allege that on Aug. 10, 2010, Day sold an oxygen concentrator to a Mount Pleasant client, who made the $3,300 check payable to Day.

Day also allegedly sold the same client a battery pack later in the month for $550, according to police. The check was again made payable to Day.

Police complaints say Day deposited the funds into his personal checking account, refusing to turn any money over to the pharmacy.

The pharmacy’s cost for a new oxygen concentrator is reported to be $2,282.

Second-degree theft in excess of $1,000 is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $7,500.
