Police arrested a local man after he was allegedly intoxicated in public for the eighth time.
Brian Timothy Shepherd, 30, 712 E. Market St., Apt. 1, was charged June 6 with habitual consumption/intoxication.
According to a police report, Iowa City police responded to a complaint regarding an allegedly unresponsive, intoxicated cab passenger at 414 E. Market St.
Upon arrival, the cab driver informed officers Shepherd’s friends had “assisted” him as he got into the cab after exiting a downtown bar.
The report said officers shook and shouted at the unresponsive Shepherd, but only after “multiple sternum rubs” did he respond.
Shepherd allegedly was unable to retrieve his ID without assistance, and he admitted to drinking too much alcohol, police said. He was transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Shepherd has seven previous convictions under the same chapter between August 2008 and February.
