North Liberty police arrested a man after he allegedly spat on an officer after a reported assault.

Joshua Kyle Showalter, 21, North Liberty, was charged Sunday with assault on peace officers and assault causing bodily injury.

According to complaints, police were dispatched to Showalter’s home after receiving reports of a fight.

Upon arrival, witnesses said Showalter allegedly hit a man in the eye several times. Officers said the alleged victim had a swollen eye, as well as red marks and scratches near his neck.

When police attempted to take Showalter into custody, reports said he allegedly spit on officers numerous times.

The report said he also made threats against the officer’s family and personal property.
