The Iowa City School District is facing a lawsuit over alleged open-records violations.
The lawsuit alleges the district administration has failed to be compliant with open-records proceedings.
At Tuesday’s board meeting, district attorney Kirsten Frey said she was served the lawsuit on Tuesday afternoon, part of which asks board members to look into evaluating a certain staff member’s conduct. The suit was served by University of Iowa professor Edwin Stone. More information on the suit was not available on Tuesday.
However, she said, current School Board policy states only the superintendent may examine a staff member’s conduct.
The board voted unanimously to not investigate the staff member, then voted unanimously to request that Superintendent Steve Murley examine the staff member and the allegations.
At the same meeting, Iowa City Education Association President Tom Yates said at the association has filed a grievance because district officials failed to notify them about lead paint in Mann Elementary.
