University of Iowa Clinical Professor Rick Dobyns on Thursday announced his intention to run for an Iowa City City Council seat this fall.

Dobyns aims to replace outgoing City Councilor Regenia Bailey, who does not plan to run for re-election.

This won’t be Dobyns’ first shot at a council seat; his first run was in 2004. This time around, he said, he remains enthusiastic to serve the city and intends to focus on downtown businesses as well as investing in the surrounding neighborhoods and community.
