Iowa City police are looking for a man who reportedly tried to lure a young boy into his car last week.
According to a press release, an 8-year-old boy told police Wednesday he was approached by an adult man while walking home from Shimek Elementary, 1400 Grissell Place, around a week ago.
The boy said he was waiting for a sibling at the intersection of Grissell Place and Whiting Avenue, when the man came up to him and asked him for his name and phone number.
The release said the boy refused to release his information, and the man threatened to put him in his car, but the child was able to run away.
The release said the child did not see the man’s car. The man was described as a white male with medium length blond hair. The release said he had tattoos on his upper arms and was a medium height and build.
Police are patrolling the area, and the school was notified, according to the release.
The Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
