Iowa City’s Wind Energy Supply Chain Industrial Park will receive more than $1 million for infrastructure improvement, according to Iowa City Area Development.
The funds are part of $7.5 million approved by the Iowa Transportation Commission for four rail infrastructure improvement projects.
During its 2010 session, the Iowa Legislature appropriated the money to the Iowa Department of Transportation to be used for grants for rail projects, including wind energy rail port projects, the organization reported. The Southbridge Rail Yard in Sioux City was one of three other projects to receive funding.
