The state Board of Regents approved two UI land purchases during a telephonic meeting Thursday.
The UI plans to purchase a 24,000-square-foot property at 301 S. Clinton now occupied by Bank of the West for its new School of Music and recital-hall buildings. The purchase price is set at $3.1 million with an additional $350,000 in relocation costs.
The university also received approval for a land purchase in North Liberty for UIHC expansion.
The undeveloped land is located at the border between North Liberty and Coralville. UI spokesman Tom Moore said the space could potentially be used for expansion of the UI Family Care Clinic, which sees approximately 100 patients daily; it is only meant to handle around 25 daily.
The cost for the land is nearly $11.7 million.
