The University of Iowa will seek the approval of two property purchases — one on Clinton Street and another in North Liberty — at the Board of Regents meeting next week.

Agenda documents released Thursday show officials hope to purchase the first property — a 24,000-square-foot space at 301 S. Clinton that houses the Bank of the West — to construct the new School of Music recital-hall facility. The proposed purchase price sits at $3.1 million, with an additional $350,000 in relocation costs.

Plans for the School of Music, whose structures were damaged in the 2008 flood, also cover the property occupied by MidWestOne Bank. But regents discussed in closed session at their last meeting, "unresolved issues" regarding that land.

UI spokesman Tom Moore said discussions are ongoing.

UI officials are also seeking approval for a property purchase in North Liberty.

The undeveloped land — more than 40 acres — will be used for future UI Hospital and Clinics expansion, documents show.

Moore said the UI currently has no detailed plans for the land, but officials are interested in the area because it is a "thriving, rapidly growing community."

The price of the land sits at nearly $11.7 million. The land sits at an intersection at the boundary between North Liberty and Coralville.
