Assistant City Manager Dale Helling and administrative assistant Kathi Johnansen sent a letter to the Iowa City City Council on Wednesday recommending changes to mobile vending on the Pedestrian Mall.
Stating concerns about space and safety, the letter included potentially setting a maximum number of vendors on the space and reducing the number to five before the city accepts new applications.
Also included was the motion that mobile vendors should no longer be limited to operating house, but rather, be allowed to set individual schedules.
Helling and Johnansen wrote in the letter that vendors should be allowed to sell any kind of food they choose. Under current regulations, vendors are rarely able to sell the same products.
The City Council is scheduled to discuss the item at a Dec. 6 work session.
