Police charged a University of Iowa student for allegedly throwing soda-pop cans at an officer.
Ryan Jansa, 19, 528D Mayflower, was charged Nov. 11 with assault with a weapon against a peace officer.
According to police, Jansa threw full soda-pop cans and a water bottle from the fifth floor of Mayflower at an officer conducting an OWI investigation around 2:43 a.m. Sept. 24. One of the cans reportedly hit a marked police vehicle, within feet of the officer.
Police said Jansa admitted to throwing the cans and being intoxicated at the time.
Assault with a weapon against a police officer is a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a maximum of a $7,500 fine.
