All five of Iowa’s Congressional representatives who ran for re-election this fall are officially safe in their positions.
U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, D-Iowa, hung on to win a close race in the 1st Congressional District, which was too close to call late on Tuesday.
The final canvas shows Braley beat Republican challenger Ben Lange 49 percent to 47 percent.
Libertarian Rob Petsche and independent Jason Faulkner each earned less than 2 percent of the vote.
Braley’s win was the narrowest among Iowa’s congressmen this year. Republican Reps. Steve King and Tom Latham each won more than 60 percent of the vote in their districts.
Democratic Reps. Leonard Boswell and Dave Loebsack — who represents Iowa City — each earned just over 50 percent.
