Local officials said Monday they accepted the resignation of a department administrator who was charged with OWI last week.

In a special meeting Sunday night, the Johnson County Emergency Communication Center governing board — composed of authorities from various local jurisdictions — accepted the resignation of Michael Sullivan, according to Sullivan’s attorney, Tom Maxwell.

Sullivan was arrested by Coralville police for allegedly driving drunk on April 22.

Officials from the communication center said temporary and long-term plans to replace Sullivan were not immediately clear. Iowa City City Councilor Mike Wright, a member of the center’s governing board, said the group plans to meet later this week to discuss hiring options.

Until a permanent replacement can be selected, Wright said other local law-enforcement authorities — Iowa City Police Chief Sam Hargadine or Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek, for instance — might take on some of the duties.
