University of Iowa students will pay a larger chunk of the school’s budget than ever, according to the fiscal 2011 preliminary budget.
Officials project students will pay $25.6 million in fiscal 2011, and students from all three regent institutions will pay a combined $53.6 million.
For the second year in a row, tuition will generate more money for the UI’s general fund than will state appropriations. Tuition will amount to 51.9 percent; state appropriations will be 41.4 percent.
The fiscal 2011 budget will be presented for the first time to the state Board of Regents at its monthly meeting April 29.
“Therefore, the detailed consequences of this budget for each college will not be known until later in May as they develop their plans,” wrote UI Senior Vice President for Finance Doug True in an e-mail.
