Two more injuries will leave Iowa short on the defensive line and in the secondary when it takes on Iowa State at 3 p.m.

Hawkeye defensive tackle Brady Reiff and cornerback Matt Hankins have been ruled out for Iowa’s final non-conference game.

Hankins’ injury continues a trend of injured defensive backs over the past few weeks. Backup cornerbacks Julius Brents (knee) and Riley Moss (leg) will sit out again against the Cyclones, and Kaevon Merriweather will miss his second consecutive contest with a foot injury.

D.J. Johnson — Iowa’s “cash” starter when in the formation — will likely take Hankins’ place on the outside, but Terry Roberts could fill in, as well.

Geno Stone also left Iowa’s win over Rutgers on Sept. 7 with an injury, but head coach Kirk Ferentz said he will play.

On the defensive line, Reiff’s injury leaves a slot open for Daviyon Nixon and Austin Schulte to see an increase in playing time.
