College football Week 3: Football’s still here

“I feel spoiled having football on for a third week in a row.”

Katina Zentz

Indiana head coach, Tom Allen, addresses the media during the Big Ten Football Media Day in Chicago, Ill., on Thursday, July 18, 2019.

Big Ten Power Rankings

1. Ohio State

If I was giving out helmet stickers, the Buckeyes would receive plenty.

2. Penn State

Not almost losing to Army moves you up in these power rankings.

3. Wisconsin

The Badgers have played more games (two) than points they’ve allowed (0).

4. Iowa

Moved up one spot in the AP Poll but no spots in the DI’s power rankings.

5. Michigan

Oliver Martin saw this coming.

6. Michigan State

Michigan State’s rankings better than its alternate jerseys. But that’s not hard.

7. Maryland

Maryland scored 142 points in its first two games. Friendly reminder: this isn’t basketball.

8. Northwestern

It’s hard to decide what to do with Northwestern because Week 2 bye weeks are weird.

9. Indiana

I’m convinced Indiana is the most average Big Ten team ever.

10. Purdue

A win over an SEC team is a power move. Losing to Nevada in Week 1 wasn’t.

11. Minnesota

*insert joke about rowing the boat here*

12. Illinois

A 2-0 start for the Illini will go downhill quick.

13. Nebraska

An incredibly tough scene out in Lincoln.

14. Rutgers

Rutgers went from 48 to 0 real quick.

Big Ten schedule

No. 6 Ohio State vs. Indiana

11 a.m. | FOX

Could this be the random mid-tier Big Ten team Ohio State loses to this year? No? OK then.

Illinois vs. Eastern Illinois

11 a.m. | BTN

This in-state battle will be about as close as if the Bears took on the Illini. Actually, it’s Illinois, so maybe not.

No. 21 Maryland vs. Temple

11 a.m. | CBSSN

Maryland is averaging 71 points per game this season. If the Terrapins do it again, they’ll shoot up these power rankings and maybe the AP Poll.

No. 13 Penn State vs. Pittsburgh

11 a.m. | ABC

Good thing Antonio Brown didn’t make any of these Pennsylvania teams mad and then go join Alabama.

Minnesota vs. Georgia Southern

2:30 p.m. | BTN

The Gophers won their first two games by a combined 10 points. Not exactly the safest way to start a season, but at least they’re doing better than Nebraska.

Northwestern vs. UNLV

2:30 p.m. | BTN

The really smart kids against the kids who go to college in Las Vegas. This has “fun” written all over it.

No. 19 Iowa vs. Iowa State

3 p.m. | FS1

Iowa State is always Iowa’s most anticipated nonconference opponent, but College Gameday in Ames ramps it up even more.

No. 18 Michigan State vs. Arizona State

3 p.m. | FOX

When Eno Benjamin de-committed from Iowa, the Spartans probably though they would never have to face him. They were wrong.

Purdue vs. TCU

6:30 p.m. | BTN

I miss the days when TCU was a powerhouse in the Mountain West. That would make this matchup a lot more fun, but I guess Rondale Moore makes up for that.

Nebraska vs. Northern Illinois

7 p.m. | FS1

Nebraska holds a solid 0-1 record in its last meeting with the Huskies. After losing to Troy once and Colorado twice in the past two seasons, anything is possible.
