The UI is looking into numerous allegations of sexual misconduct by a UI student.
The official UI Twitter account responded to the original viral tweet, posted on June 11, with a picture of a statement.
It reads: “The University of Iowa does not condone sexual misconduct of any kind. The university takes these allegations seriously and is working to learn more. Under Iowa law, we are not able to disclose the status of an investigation. Thank you for your patience as we follow our standard processes to address this matter.”
UI police have responded to tweets, urging people to file formal complaints and noting that “… a tweet doesn’t constitute a formal complaint.”
On June 11, a UI student tweeted pictures of private messages from another UI student. Hundreds of women responded, saying they have received similar harassing messages.
At this time, the DI is not reporting the name of the student who is the subject of the tweets. The DI is continuing to look into the allegations.
