Authorities requested an arrest warrant for a Coralville man on a theft charge.
Gregory Lovett, 29, is accused of second-degree theft on June 10, 2016.
According to the affidavit, the victim came to officers in September 2016 to report Lovett, his friend, gave him a $1,790 check made out to Lovett. Lovett asked the victim to cash the check, the affidavit said, and give Lovett the cash back.
After the victim cashed the check and gave the money to Lovett, the affidavit said, the bank flagged the check the check, saying it was on a closed account. The victim is now out $1,809, the affidavit said, including penalty charges.
Officers have attempted to contact Lovett, the affidavit said, but he has not returned any calls.
Second-degree theft is a Class-D felony.
