The Iowa women’s basketball team was 4-0 heading into the championship round of the Hawkeye Classic on Nov. 20 when it ran into the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State.

The game was a battle of unbeatens, and as the final buzzer sounded, Iowa walked away defeated, 66-64.

Iowa had to play catch-up throughout the game because it struggled offensively in the first half. In the fourth quarter, the Hawkeyes played with a sense of urgency and were able to come back, scoring 23 points in the last 10 minutes.

The team’s late surge was not enough, because of its early slow start. Iowa’s leading scorer was sophomore Megan Gustafson with 21 points.

The Hawks will try to bounce back this week when they head to Cancún, Mexico, for the annual Cancún Challenge.
