The No. 72 Iowa men’s tennis team will travel for the last time this season to face No. 22 Michigan at 5 p.m. today and finish the regular season against Michigan State at noon April 24.
The Hawkeyes (11-14) will face a Wolverine team (17-6) that is undefeated at home this season (12-0).
This doesn’t look good for the Hawkeyes, who have struggled to win on the road this season (2-7) and have struggled against teams in the conference (1-8). The Hawkeyes did win in last year’s match against Michigan in Iowa City (4-3).
For the April 24 matchup against the Spartans (10-16) in East Lancing, things look more promising for the Hawkeyes; the Spartans are on a 10-match losing streak.
The Spartans are 9-6 at home this season, but they have lost four out of the last five games at home. To go along with that, Michigan State has not won a match in the conference (0-9).
The Spartans will play Nebraska (12-11) today.
With the Big Ten Tournament right around the corner, these last two matches will be important for the Hawkeyes. With only one win in conference separating the Hawkeyes and Spartans, it could all come down to the last match of the season deciding which will finish last in the Big Ten.
