Possibly the most touching moment during Dance Marathon’s Big Event is graduation.
The Dance Marathon graduation ceremony itself honors children that have been cancer-free for five years.
This year, Dance Marathon honored 17 kids who won their battle against cancer. Among the many esteemed graduates, three talked about their adventure through Dance Marathon.
The ceremony brought lots of tears, tears of joy and tears of thankfulness.
Austin Bostic was one of the few honored at the event. Austin enjoys playing football, playing video games, camping, and four-wheeling.
Austin said his overall experience with Dance Marathon has been positive.
“It’s been terrific,” he said. “I’ve made so many friends. I’d like to thank everyone in Dance Marathon so much.”
Dylan Schaap was also honored during the graduation ceremony. Dylan is a sophomore in high school and enjoys playing video games.
He talked about how much he enjoyed Dance Marathon and how it impacted his life.
“It’s been life changing,” he said. “I couldn’t have asked for a better experience from anyone. Thank you, Dance Marathon.”
Ian McGrath was another child honored. Ian enjoys watching videos on his computer, swimming, and martial arts.
Ian said he appreciated Dance Marathon and what it’s done for him. He reflected on the experience.
“It was awesome,” he said. “It was the best day of my life! I can’t wait for next year. Thank you guys a lot.”
