Red, yellow and white lit up Kinnick Stadium saturday night during this year’s Light the Night event.
The fundraising walk aims to fund research in finding a cure for blood cancer. It is sponsored by the Lukemia and Lymphoma Society and is their largest event of the year.
Over 1200 people attended the event and the group raised $115 thousand toward blood cancer research.
“The Light the Night is the one where we really just throw open the garage doors and say ‘come on in,’ to patients, survivors, family members, the community [and] businesses,” Campaign Manager Mary Ann Amundson said.
One family had a large group in attendance, in honor of their son who died of Lymphoma earlier this year.
“We’re here to walk in his memory and bring as many people out that continue to want to fight with him,” Craig Schroeder said.
During the walk, participants held different colored lanterns to signify why they were there. Red lanterns represented those currently fighting blood cancer, white for survivors and yellow for those who have died.
