The Iowa women’s golf team traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan, Sept. 20 through Monday to compete at the East and West Match Play Challenge co-hosted by Michigan and Wisconsin.
The team finished the first two rounds of stroke-play 32-over par to rank sixth among the eight teams. Freshman Jessica Ip led the Hawkeyes in scoring posting a score of 148 (plus-4) through the first two rounds to rank ninth.
Match play commenced Sunday, and the Hawkeyes were downed 3-2. Ip led the team with a 1-up victory against Purdue’s Anna Appert Lund. Freshman Elisa Suarez earned the other victory, winning 6&5 against Boilermaker Marta Martin.
Iowa dropped the final set of the tournament on Monday, losing 4-1 to Michigan. Ip once again led the team and earned the sole victory for the Hawkeyes, defeating Kathy Lim 3&2.
Southern Methodist defeated California-Davis to take home the team championship in a 3-2 victory. Ohio State claimed third place topping Wisconsin 3-2, and Miami surpassed Purdue 3-2 to claim fifth.
