At 10 a.m. Saturday, the annual Riverbank Art Fair will take place in the IMU Main Lounge. The event will continue at 10 a.m. April 27 and feature more than 75 artists from Iowa and the Midwest.

Admission is free and open to the public.

Two of the artists featured will be jeweler Anne and sculptor Terri Ferguson. The two have attended the event on and off for roughly 20 years.

“We really enjoy the festival,” Terri Ferguson said. “We love the people in Iowa City; they’re just my kind of people and have an appreciation for art.”

Ferguson creates between 100 and 150 sculptures a year tending to focus on pieces dealing with family relationships, though he also dabbles in more classically styled sculptures.

The event will feature a plethora of other art genres, including paintings, drawings, and woodwork.

“We try to ensure there’s a wide variety [of art],” said Shannon Wallace, the assistant marketing director for the UI Fine Arts Council. “Each artist is able to send in three photos of their works. We then go through [the pictures] and select which ones will end up in the event.”

In addition to the art show, the event will include live music and a free wine tasting at noon Saturday, also in the IMU Main Lounge.

“It’s rewarding to see how the hard work pays off and watching people really enjoy themselves,” Wallace said.
