A Cedar Rapids man has been accused of falsifying identification.
Tyler Winegar, 24, was charged March 22 with identity theft, driving while barred, tampering with records, forgery, malicious prosecution, and providing false identification information.
Iowa City police officials initiated a traffic stop when they reportedly noticed Winegar’s vehicle operating with no lights on. When Winegar made contact with the police, he gave his name as Tate Winegar and was charged with OWI under that identity, the police complaint said.
All forms for the OWI investigation were filled out with Winegar’s name as Tate Winegar, the complaint said. Winegar signed an implied consent form with the information at the top of the form to refuse chemical testing.
Winegar went through jail booking and initial appearance with the identity of Tate Winegar.
Identity theft is a Class-D felony. Driving while barred is an aggravated misdemeanor. Tempering with records is an aggravated misdemeanor. Forgery is an aggravated misdemeanor. Providing false identification information is a serious misdemeanor.
