The University of Iowa Executive Council of Graduate and Professional Students unanimously approved funding of almost $470,000 for nine campus organizations.
“I’m happy that [the Executive Council] and UISG worked together to fund these nine vital organizations,” Ben Gillig, the Executive Council’s budget director, said in a release. “I was particularly excited to see a multicultural student organization receive [collaboratively funded organization] funding for the first time."
The UI Student Government also approved the collaboratively funded organization allocations at its last meeting.
This year, student-government officials approved funding to several groups including the Indian Student Alliance, Dance Marathon, and the Bijou.
Michael Appel, the president of the Executive Council, said the collaboration is a great example of graduate and professional students working with undergraduates to fund organizations that have a meaningful impact on campus, the release said.
