The Iowa City Landfill is expected to reopen today after city officials closed it June 8.
Officials closed the Landfill after wind was causing smoke from the fire to move toward city administrative offices and the scalehouse, according to the city’s latest update.
Officials had planned to reopen the landfill June 9. However, it remained closed because of the direction of the wind. According to the release, commercial haulers were directed to deliver at the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency, 1954 County Home Road, Marion.
The Iowa City Fire Department will continue its "stir, burn, and cover" operations through the next week, weather permitting. City officials expect the fire o smolder weeks after they conclude the process.
