A Chicago man has been charged with allegedly stealing a car left running.
Lawrence Coleman, 19, was charged June 1 with first-degree theft.
According to a Johnson County Sheriffs’ Office complaint, Coleman allegedly took a vehicle left running in front of a service station. Law-enforcement officials chased Coleman on foot after he exited the vehicle and hid in heavy brush.
Police officials arrested Coleman shortly after that , and he allegedly admitted to attempting to take the car to Chicago, the complaint said.
First-degree theft is a Class-C felony punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000.
