A hearing on whether the first-degree murder case against Charles William Curtis Thompson will be dismissed is scheduled to continue Nov. 11, according to court documents.
The hearing began on Oct. 20 and included the testimony of two Iowa City police detectives, who spoke about interviews at the Muscatine County Jail and activities that took place during Thompson’s trial in September.
Thompson was charged with the shooting death of local landlord John Verspyt in the hallway of a Broadway apartment in October 2009.
In support of its motion for dismissal, the defense alleged the prosecution withheld evidence in the case relating to whether Thompson was involved in the Verspyt’s death.
Thompson’s trial ended in a mistrial in September, when the prosecution played portions of an interview with him they initially agreed not to show.
