Iowa City police arrested a Cedar Rapids man after he allegedly intended to sell marijuana.
Guillermo Alcantara Bueno, 25, was charged Sept. 19 with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and OWI.
According to a complaint, Alcantara Bueno and his passenger were stopped on the intersection of Dodge and Market Streets.
Upon searching the vehicle, police allegedly located approximately 0.5 ounces of marijuana in the backpack of a passenger.
Alcantra Bueno also allegedly sent text messages to others stating his intention to sell the marijuana and also received several text messages asking if he had marijuana to sell.
According to the complaint, Alcantara Bueno had red, bloodshot eyes and dilated pupils. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.000, and an examination by a drug-recognition expert determined him impaired and unable to operate a motor vehicle safely.
Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute is a Class-D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $7,500.
OWI is a serious misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison and a fine of $1,875.
