The trial for an Iowa City man charged with first-degree murder is on schedule, officials said.
Eric Scott Osborn, 28, was charged in March 2010 with first-degree murder after allegedly striking and strangling his live-in girlfriend, Sarah McKay, after a night of gambling, drinking, and marijuana use.
Sixth District judge Mitchell Turner said there were no pending or outstanding motions at the time of the status conference Sept. 9. The conference was held to ensure progression of the trail.
“I think both parties are really diligently working to get this ready so that it can be tried on that date,” Public Defender Quint Meyerdirk said. “I think we’re getting very close.”
The trial is set for Nov. 14, and a pretrial conference will be held Nov. 3. Osborn will plead not guilty.
