All 13 Iowa football players who were afflicted with rhabdomyolysis in January have fully recovered, but only 10 will return to the team this season, according to a report released on the Iowa Board of Regents website.
The other three players are not returning due to reasons ranging from focusing on academic work and other personal reasons unrelated to the injuries. Two of the players were on athletics scholarships.
The Board of Regents reported the 13 players had fully recovered from their rhabdo symptoms after rehabilitation held separately the rest of the team’s practice, the report said. All but one player were cleared for spring practice, and each injured player completed voluntary summer training.
An academic paper on the rhabdo incident and its investigation is being written by doctors connected to the incident, according to the report.
