Curtis Fry was granted work release following a decision from the Iowa Board of Parole Wednesday, the Iowa City Press-Citizen has reported.
Fry has been held at the North Central Correctional Facility in Rockwell City, Iowa, following his voluntary-manslaughter conviction in the spring of 2009 in the death of 75-year-old Patrick McEwen.
The decision comes after the board refused to release him from prison April 20.
Fry, now 24, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The Press-Citizen reported the board ordered him to a work release program in Johnson County, where he will follow up work release with an intensive parole. He must also complete 120 days of community service.
