The Iowa City City Council voted 7-0 to hire HDR Engineering Inc. to provide consultant services for the downtown and Riverfront Crossings areas.
According to a letter from senior planner Robert Miklo, the project is to create a “form-based zoning code” and undergo a housing and office market assessment. The analysis will show what kind of development could be feasible in the two districts over the next five years.
The physical plans to develop these areas are central elements of the city’s comprehensive plan, the letter said.
The total cost of services is $164,440 — part of which will be funded by a $50,000 state grant.
