The Iowa field-hockey team closed its season today in Evanston, Ill., when it fell to Michigan, 2-0, in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament.
The contest was scoreless in the first half of play; the first goal came at the 37:58, when the Wolverines took a 1-0 advantage.
After more than 20 scoreless minutes, Michigan (13-6) later connected for its second score of the contest, and the 2-0 lead proved to be enough to secure the victory and a bid to the semifinals.
The loss marked the last outing in black and gold for seniors Chelsea Miller and Sarah Pergine, who played a combined 87 games for Iowa.
The Wolverines recorded 13 shots on goal and six penalty corners, and Hawkeye goalkeeper Kathleen McGraw had three saves — bumping her season total to 73 on the season.
Sophomore Jess Barnett led Iowa (3-14) this fall in goals (7), points (14), and shots (58), and was named second team All-Big Ten on Thursday. Fellow sophomore Sarah Drake also earned second-team honors.
